C T Online Desk: Bangladesh foreign minister AK Abdul Momen on Saturday held a meeting with Pakistan’s state minister for foreign affairs Hina Rabbani Khar in Colombo on the sidelines of his meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart.
‘The foreign minister held a bilateral meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart today. They discussed the issues of mutual interest,’ the foreign ministry said in its official Twitter account on Saturday.
The foreign minister sought support of Sri Lanka for speedy repatriation of Rohingyas to their homeland Myanmar and import of more commodities from Bangladesh, according to the statement.
Hina Rabbani Khar met Bangladesh foreign minister Abdul Momen in Colombo and they discussed mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in diverse fields, Pakistan’s foreign ministry tweeted.
‘Moving forward for a better future,’ Pakistan high Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Ahmed Siddiqui retweeted sharing photos of the bilateral meeting on the sidelines in Colombo on Saturday.
Foreign minister Momen on Friday went to Colombo on a two-day visit at the invitation from Sri Lankan foreign minister MUM Ali Sabry to participate in the celebration of 75th Independence Day of Sri Lanka as a ‘Honoured Guest’, according to a foreign ministry press release issued on Friday.
Momen also called on Sri Lankan president Ranil Wickremesinghe on the day.
‘The president of Sri Lanka thanked prime minister Sheikh Hasina for extending support to them during the critical time,’ the ministry said in its statement.
On the first day of his visit on Friday, Momen called on Sri Lankan prime minister Dinesh Gunewerdana at the Temple Trees in the afternoon, the press release said.
They reiterated the importance of further enhancing on-going sectoral collaboration between the two South Asian neighbours.
They especially focused on trade facilitation, business and investment, cooperation in tourism and connectivity.
Besides, the foreign minister was expected to meet some of the visiting South Asian counterparts on the sidelines, the official release mentioned.
