All nations want recognition of their mother tongue.That is why February 21 has been recognized as the International Mother Language Day in the World Assembly. This is a great achievement of Bengalis.
Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury made the remarks while inaugurating an alternative Shaheed Minar at Chittagong City Corporation Municipal Model School and College Ground for the renovation and further development of Chittagong Muslim Institute Cultural Complex and Central Shaheed Minar on Saturday (February 5) morning.
He said that the philosophy of Bengali nationalism developed and spread in the spirit of language movement. Which gradually gave rise to the Bengali nationalism through the independence movement and the armed liberation war. That is why Shaheed Day and Shaheed Minar are the place of our passion. From here we find the language of protest again and again. So it is the holy pilgrimage center of progressive and non-communal consciousness. It is also closely linked to the development of our culture.
The mayor said that a mahal was involved in a conspiracy out of jealousy over the new wave of development initiated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In this language month, Bengalis need to acquire the strength to face even bigger challenges.
Mohammad Shahidul Alam said that Shaheed Minar is the main accessory of the cultural zone in Chittagong. Although the Shaheed Minar has been relocated for the time being for the renovation and further development of the Shaheed Minar, it will soon return to its original location. However, this temporary Shaheed Minar will also remain in force.
Muktijoddha and Muktiyuddha researcher Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman said that even though Bangla language has got state status, Bengal is slowly becoming extinct. This is not acceptable at all. The tendency of not writing nameplates in Bengali in shops and businesses is reprehensible.
He expressed satisfaction over the initiative taken by CCC Mayor to curb this trend.
