Rohingya youth among five arrested with 2 lakh Yaba tablets

C T Online Desk:The Rapid Action Battalion on Thursday arrested five alleged drug peddlers including a Rohingya youth with 2 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets at a location under Pekua upazila in Cox’s Bazar district.

The arrested ones are Nurul Abser, 32, Md Meher Ali, 39, his brother Md Kalu, 23, Abdul Hamid, 37, and Rohingya youth Nuru Hasan, 33, said major Mehedi Hasan, company commander of  RAB-7 Chandgoan camp.

All are from different upazilas in Cox’s Bazar district, he said.

‘We arrested them at the Pekua ghat area in Cox’s Bazar at about 4:50am. We recovered a total of 2 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets from them,’ he said.

‘They were bringing the Yaba tablets from the Teknaf area to Chattogram using the sea route by a fishing boat,’ the RAB officer said.

They used the sea route to avoid arrest and evade the eyes of law enforcement agencies, he said.

A case was filed with Pekua police station in this connection on Thursday, he added.
