16,500 meters of current nets seized in Anwara

C T Online Desk:  In Raipur union of Anwara upazila, 16,500 meters of illegal current   nets of various types wer e seized during a raid at the mouth of Sangu river and Bay of Bengal on Wednesday.

Anwara Upazila Administration, District-Upazila Fisheries Department and Bangladesh Coast Guard jointly conducted the operation. Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Rashedul Haque said that in the special combing operation, 6 coastal behundi nets, 3 pekua nets and 11 mosquito nets were seized. The estimated length of the net is 16,500 meters. Its estimated market value is about 6 lakh taka.The seized nets were destroyed by fire. Chittagong District Fisheries Officer Farhana Lovely led the drive. Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project Deputy Project Director Adhir Chandra Das, Assistant Director Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury, Marine Fisheries Officers Hujjatul Islam, Jahed Ahmed, Mohammad Enamul Haque and Sangu Station CC Delwar Hossain were present on the occasion.
