C T Online Desk: Followed by one killed and two injured in shootout on the Myanmar side of the Ghumdhum-Tumbru border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban and as the zero line camp was set on fire, Rohingyas are running in fear towards Bangladesh.
Locals said that the shootout took place between 5:30am and 5:30pm on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Hamid Ullah, 38, and the injured were identified as Muhib Ullah, 27, and Md Hossain, 12.
According to local sources, about 30 Rohingyas including women and children took shelter in Ghumdhum union parishad of Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban when the zero line Rohingya camp caught fire. Later they were taken from there to Tumbru Government Primary School by local people.
Asma, a teenager from zero line Rohingya camp, said: “Children have been shot. Unable to stay, we are leaving the zero line and moving here. All our houses have been burnt.”
Locals said that due to the shelling, many people living on the border, were moving to other places along with their domestic animals, cows and goats.
Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police Mahfuzul Islam said that a Rohingya youth named Hamid Ullah died while undergoing treatment at Kutupalong MSF Hospital in Ukhiya in border firing. There are two injured including a child who was shot and receiving treatment. The body of the deceased was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Around 4,280 Rohingyas have been living in the Rohingya camp established at the zero line in Tumbru since 2017.
