Four cases filed against 600 Ctg BNP activists

C T Online Desk: Police filed four cases against some 600 leaders and activists of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and arrested at least 24 people following a clash on Monday in the Kazirdewri area.

‘We arrested 24 people who were involved in the attack on police, vandalism, and setting fire to vehicles during the BNP rally,’ said Md Jahidul Kabir, officer-in-charge of the Kotwali police station.

The OC said that Kotwali police filed three cases while Mirsarai police filed one case against 600 people, including 95 named accused.

Chattogram city unit BNP convener Shahadat Hussain and member secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar were among the accused, he said.

Md Idris Ali, former office secretary of the Chattogram city unit BNP, told New Age that police raided the houses of many BNP leaders on Tuesday.

‘BNP activists are on the run as police have filed four more cases,’ he added.

At least 55 people were injured, including five police personnel, when activists from the main opposition BNP clashed with police on Monday afternoon at Kazirdewri in Chattogram during a rally to press home their 10-point demand and protest the power price hike.
