JSC, JDC exams scrapped permanently

C T Online Desk: The government has decided to permanently scrap the Junior School Certificate (JSC), Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) and its equivalents examinations from this year.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the decision, according to a circular, signed by Akther Unnisa Shiuly, deputy secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division, issued on Monday.

The division sent the proposal to the PMO in December last year because the new curriculum does not include a board exam.

The circular stated that the prime minister accepted the suggestion and gave her approval to discontinue the examinations.

JSC examinations did not take place place last year as well due to the pandemic.

At that time, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said: “Students will be promoted to the next grade on the basis of the results of final examinations in their respective schools. However, they will receive a certificate from their respective Board of Education.”

The government introduced JSC and JDC exams in 2010 and over 1.4 million class-eight students from schools and madrasas across the country participated in the first-ever JSC and JDC examinations.
