C T Online Desk: The Central Shaheed Minar in Chittagong has been demolished for new construction under the Cultural Complex project. Therefore, an alternative Shaheed Minar has been constructed at the Municipal Model School and College ground in the city.
The new Shaheed Minar will be honored on International Mother Language Day. Therefore, the construction work is in full swing with the aim of inaugurating the Shaheed Minar this week.
According to the Public Works Department, the construction of the central Shaheed Minar will be completed within the next six months. Before that, people of all walks of life will pay their respects at the Alternative Shaheed Minar on National Day on February 21 and March 26.
Earlier, CCC Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury directed to start construction of alternative Shaheed Minar at the municipal school premises. He said that during the renovation work of the central Shaheed Minar, permission has been given to build an alternative Shaheed Minar on the school premises of the city corporation so that there would be no interruption in the observance of national days including 21st February and 16th December. However, the existing Shaheed Minar on the school premises cannot be demolished under any circumstances. That fact must be taken into account. ”
According to the Public Works Department implementing the project, the alternative Shaheed Minar on the municipal school premises is being constructed in the style of the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka. Although an alternative, it will be a permanent Shaheed Minar.
