C T Online Desk: A Philippine woman has once again proved the saying that love transcends all boundaries, by crossing the barriers of religion and country to marry a man hailing from Lakshmipur, Bangladesh.
Yoan Digusman Legumbai left her native land and came to Lakshmipur to marry Md Naimur Rashid.
Locals flocked to see her during their “gaye holud” ceremony on Thursday in Dakshin Hamchadi village of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila.
They were scheduled to get married at a Chinese restaurant in the city on Friday afternoon.
Md Naimur Rashid is the son of Nur Mohammad and works at a private company in Malaysia.
Through his job, he met Yoan Diguman Legumbai, the daughter of Ernesta Legumbai and Imelda Legumbai, and fell in love.
Naimur and Yoan decided to get married and she came to Bangladesh, leaving her native land and religion.
Yoan converted from Christianity to Islam and changed her name to Nazifa Rashid Amira.
Naimur said they have been in love for the last eight years. In between, they decided to get married and came to Bangladesh for a holiday. He will marry her with permission from both families. They will return to Malaysia after the holiday.
Yoan said she is very happy to come to Bangladesh. “Bangladeshi people are very friendly. I love the food and culture of Bangladesh. I am planning to live in Bangladesh permanently,” she said.
The marriage of a Philippine girl to a Bangladeshi man from Lakshmipur caused a sensation in the area. Curious people were flocking to catch a glimpse of them.
In the last six months, five young foreign women have reportedly come to Lakshmipur to get married to Bangladeshi nationals.
