BSC earns Tk 225.81cr in profits in FY22

C T Online Desk: The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, the only state-owned oceangoing vessels management authority, earned net profit of Tk 225.81 crore in financial year 2021-22 which is Tk 153.78 crore more than the previous financial year 2020-21.

BSC board of directors’ chairman and state minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Sunday revealed the information at the 45th annual general meeting of the BSC board of directors at the Chattogram Boat Club in the port city.

The BSC earned a net profit of Tk 72.02 crore in the financial year 2020-21.

The BSC board also appointed Mostafa Jamanul Bahar as a board member who was nominated by Beximco Limited in the shareholder category, according to BSC general manager (admin) Mohammad Ashraful Amin.

‘Beximco Limited is now holding 5.2 per cent of total share of the BSC,’ he added.

State minister Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury presided over the meeting while BSC managing director Commodore SM Maniruzzaman, executive directors Pijush Dutta and Mohammed Yousuf and other board members were present at the meeting.

Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that they planned to collect 21 vessels for the BSC while six among them were already collected.

‘The BSC stands as an established company in the share market. Different steps have been taken for the development of BSC in continuation of overall development by the government,’ the state minister said.

‘Several other new vessels for the BSC are in the procurement process,’ he informed.
