Bangladesh win another thriller against India, clinch ODI series

C T Online Desk: Bangladesh have clinched a thrilling five run win and won the series 2-0 as India managed to score 266 runs losing nine wickets chasing 272 runs during their second ODI at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla national cricket stadium on Wednesday.

Injured skipper Rohit Sharma came to bat at number nine and played a heroic innings to almost pulled off a remarkable win as the right hander scored 51 off just 28 balls but his effort was not enough in the end.

Tigers pacer Mustafizur Rahman bowled a maiden in 48th over against India’a number 10 batsman Mohammad Siraj and after 48 overs Indie needed 40 runs from 12 balls.

Rohit smashed two sixes in that over bowled by Mahmudullah but Bangladesh fielder dropped Rohit’s catch twice, one by Ebadot Hossain in short fine-leg while the other one by Anamul Haque Bijoy in deep square leg.

Mustafiz came to bowl the last over for Bangladesh and India still needed 20 runs to level the series. Rohit scored tow boundaries from the first four balls and that means India were needed two sixes from the two last deliveries of the match.

Rohit Smashed six in the fifth ball of the over and India were needed a six in the last ball.

Mustafiz bowled a superb yorker in the last ball of the match which Rohit failed to connect properly and thus Bangladesh won the match by five runs in the end.

Earlier,  India lost experienced Virat Kohli (5) and Shikhar Dhawan (8) within five overs as Ebadot Hossian bowled Kohli in the second over while Mustafizur Rahman took the wicket of Dhawan in the third over. India lost their third wicket in Washington Sundar on 11 to Shakib al Hasan in the 10th over.

About 10 overs later, off-spinner Mehdidy Hasan Miraz removed KL Rahul on 14. India recovered from early loss of wickets with the fifth wicket partnership between Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer. Miraz removed Iyer on 82 in the 35th over to break the 107 runs stand.

Bangladesh found the sixth India wicket in Axar in the 39 th over after right-arm pacer Ebadot removed the batter on 56.

Earlier, Hosts Bangladesh have scored 271 runs losing seven wickets riding on a brilliant unbeaten century from Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah’s 77.

Miraz’s superb century came off just 83 balls with eight fours and four sixes and Mahmudullah’s 77 came from 96 deliveries with seven boundaries.

Tigers lost three of their top order batsmen quickly as skipper Liton Das (7), Anamul Haque Bijoy (11) and Nazmul Hossian Shanto (21) all went back to pavilion within 15 overs.

At one stage Bangladesh were 6-69 and struggling to even score past 100 after opt to bat first.

But Mahmudullah and Miraz started to rebuild the innings in seventh wicket partnership and later formed 148-run partnership which is the highest in any wicket for Bangladesh against India.

Eventually Bangladesh scored a challenging 271 run from their 50 overs.

Bangladesh leads the series 1-0 and are eyeing a victory in the second ODI against India to seal the series with a game to spare.

Earlier Bangladesh won the toss and elect to bat first. Bangladesh have one change in the playing eleven with left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed coming in place of young right-arm fast bowler Hasan Mahmud.

India on the other hand have two changes with Axar Patel taking place of Shahbaz Ahmed and Umran Malik playing in place of Kuldeep Sen.

Right-arm fast bowler Kuldeep had complained of back stiffness following the first ODI. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him and has advised him rest and was not available for selection for the 2nd ODI.
