C T Online Desk: Chairman of the National River Commission Manjur Ahmed Chowdhury said that Karnaphuli is the most important river in the country’s economy. If the Karnaphuli river is captured, the economy of Bangladesh will be destroyed.
So it is not right to compare it with other rivers. He said these things to reporters after visiting the Karnaphuli river on Tuesday. He said, Karnaphuli cannot be compared with other rivers of Bangladesh. Another river is not the same as Karnaphuli. It was Karnaphuli river where I am standing. But now there are fish markets and thousands of illegal establishments.
In response to reporters’ questions about dredging the river on one side and filling the river with silt on the other, he said, “I cannot accept your words.” Dredging is done to protect the river. Not to fill the river. Moreover, Karnaphuli is the most important river in Bangladesh. Biodiversity of this river must be protected at any cost, he added.
