Bakalia access road to be opened for traffic shortly

C T Online Desk: The construction of Bakalia Access Road, which has been stalled for a long time in a ten-storey building, has finally picked up speed. The road is being rebuilt by changing the alignment of the 10-story building that has become a bottleneck in the project. The road will be opened for traffic before next June.

According to sources, CDA has taken up the project of constructing a 1.53 km long road from Chandanpura, one of the busiest and densely populated areas of the city, to Karnaphuli Shah Amanat Bridge. 417.50 katha land was acquired under the project costing 205 crore 46 lakh 67 thousand taka. Apart from this, the project cost was fixed for the construction of drains, 4 box culverts, 10 cross culverts, 200 street lights. The construction of such a road was given importance in the master plan in order to ease the traffic congestion and ease the city’s connectivity with South Chittagong.

Besides, the 6-lane connecting road from Bahaddarhat to Karnaphuli Bridge was constructed, but the people of a wide area of the city were deprived of its benefits. Emphasis was placed on the project stating that if the Bakalia Access Road is constructed, the people of Bakalia and nearby areas will get the benefit of the Bahaddarhat Karnaphuli link road. The construction of the road started in November 2018. The road was supposed to be opened for traffic in June 2023, CDA sources said.
