Probe body formed over death of two workers in Khagrachhari roof collapse

C T Online Desk: A three-member probe body has been formed to investigate the death of two workers following collapse of roof of the under-construction Khagrachhari Hill District Council’s annex building collapsed.

Khagrachari Hill District Council formed the committee on Saturday night.

The committee, headed by Khagrachari Hill District Council member Kalyan Mitra Barua, has been asked to submit its report within seven working days.

The executive engineer of Public Works Department and the executive engineer of LGED have been made the members of the body.

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, two construction workers were killed and at least 5 others suffered injuries as the roof of the under-construction Khagrachhari Hill District Council’s annex building collapsed.

The deceased were identified as Sajjad Hossain, 22, and Saiful Islam Sikder, 28.

Assistant station manager of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Khagrachhari Rajesh Barua said a portion of the parking shed on the ground floor of the four-storey building collapsed, leaving one dead on the spot and at least six others wounded.

Army members and fire fighters recovered one body and rescued six others and sent them to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctor declared one of the injured dead.

Khagrachhari Sadar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Md Arifur Rahman said two bodies were sent to sadar hospital for autopsy. Injured workers are receiving treatment at the hospital, he said.
