Durga Puja: Mahanabami being celebrated across Bangladesh

C T Online Desk: The Hindu community in Bangladesh is set to celebrate Mahanabami Puja on Tuesday, with heavy hearts.

Even though it is a day of celebration, the Hindu devotees will have a shadow of sadness as they will bid farewell to Goddess Durga the next day.

The five-day Durga Puja, the biggest festival of the Hindu community, will come to an end with the solemn immersion of the Goddess Durga in Dhaka and other districts in Bangladesh on Wednesday.

Bijoya Dashami is the special ceremony of reaffirming peace and good relations among people.

On Monday, the Hindu community in Dhaka celebrated Kumari Puja after a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kumari Puja is performed each year to mark the Mahashtami of Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community.

The Goddess Durga is worshipped in various forms during the five-day Sharodiya Durgotsab.

One of those is worshiping the virgin Goddess for blessings, and the banishment of evil in front of goddess Durga, with an unmarried young girl, symbolizing a living idol.

Mahashaptami Puja was held on Sunday, while Mahashtami Puja, Kumari Puja and Sandhi Puja were slated for Monday.
