Shimu murder: Husband, his friend confess to killing the actor, says prosecutor

C T Online Desk: Slain actor Raima Islam Shimu’s husband Shakhawat Alim Nobel and his friend SMY Abdullah Farhad have admitted to murdering her in a statement recorded by a magistrate, says the prosecution.

On Thursday, investigating officer, Sub-inspector Chunnu Mia produced the accused in chief judicial magistrate court, where both accused confessed, said Additional Public Prosecutor Anwar Kabir Babul.

The duo were sent to jail after recording their confessional statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), he said.

On January 17, Shimu’s dismembered body was found in gunny sacks near the Hazratpur Bridge at Keraniganj.

Police said the body was recovered after locals reported the matter.

The victim’s brother Shahidul Islam Khokon identified the body at the Mitford Hospital and started a case against six people, including Noble and his friend Farhad.

Later on Monday, police arrested Nobel and Farhad.

Investigators found that Nobel had been long involved in a feud with his wife over domestic matters, Dhaka district police chief, Superintendent (SP) Maruf Hossain Sarder told a media call on Tuesday.
