Ex-Ctg civil surgeon  sent to jail in money embezzling

C T Online Desk: In a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of embezzling Tk 9 crore 15 lakh by buying equipments  at an increased price, the former civil surgeon of Chittagong  accused.  The court has ordered to send Civil Surgeon Dr.  Sarfraz Khan Chowdhury to jail.

On Sunday (August 28) morning, Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Special Judge Dr. Begum Zebunnesha surrendered to the court and applied for bail.

After hearing both sides, the court denied bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.

Mahanagar PP Md. Fakhruddin Chowdhury told   that although the market price of an MRI machine is around Tk 2 crore, Chittagong General Hospital bought it for Tk 6.15 cr  30 thousand Similarly, four color dopplers are bought forTk.2.6cr  taka. Although the price of this machine is only 98 lakhs. In this way, on November 25, 2019, Assistant Director of ACC Integrated Office Chittagong 1, Mohammad Sirajul Haque, filed a case against seven people for embezzling a total of 9 crore 15 lakh 30 thousand 425 Tk.

The other defendants in the case are – Chittagong General Hospital Senior Consultant (Medicine) Dr. Md. Abdur Rob, Jr. Consultant (Orthopedic Surgery) Dr. Md. Moin Uddin Majumdar, Senior Consultant (Surgery) Dr. Bijan Kumar Nath, the owner of equipment supplier Bengal Scientific and Surgical Company. Jaher Uddin Sarkar, Munshi Farooq Hussain, Proprietor of M/s Ahmed Enterprises and Aftab Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of ASL(equipments supplier).

It is written in the statement of the case that this corruption took place in the purchase of equipment for Chittagong General Hospital in 2014. Dr. Sarfaraz Khan Chowdhury served as the Civil Surgeon of Chittagong district as well as the  Superintendent   of Chittagong General Hospital at that time
