C T Online Desk: After two years, the transportation of Indian goods in transit mode using the seaport of Chattogram is going to start again.
Four consignments of Indian products will begin a trial run through transit next month. Out of which three consignments will go through Chittagong port and the remaining one consignment will go through Mongla port.
The four test consignments will arrive by sea from Kolkata in West Bengal, India to Chittagong and Mongla. Later, the shipments are overland Chittagong-Tamabil; Chittagong-Sheola; Through Chittagong-Bibirbazar and Mongla-Tamabil, it will go to the north-eastern states of India, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura.
A meeting was held with high-level officials in the Ministry of Shipping last Tuesday to complete the transportation of transit goods. Meanwhile, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has fixed transit charges for pilot shipments of goods to India using Chittagong and Mongla seaports.
