Flag furore: Pakistan embassy had no ill intent, Momen says

C T Online Desk: Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Sunday said objections have been raised regarding the picture of the flags of Bangladesh and Pakistan together on the Facebook page of the Pakistan Embassy.

“However, I believe that there is no bad motive behind it,” he said at a press conference organized on “DH Foreign Minister Conference” at the Ministry.

Meanwhile, amid Dhaka’s objection, Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka on Sunday removed its cover photo from the mission’s Facebook page that used a distorted version of Bangladesh’s national flag, reports UNB.

Earlier on Saturday evening, the foreign minister said: “Pakistan High Commission says that they make such pictures by combining their country’s flag and the flag of other countries. They have also used flags of Turkey, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka etc.”

When asked about the violation of Bangladesh’s flag policy, Momen said: “As we have objections against it, they will definitely withdraw the photo.”

During the media briefing on the 20th session of the Council of Ministers of D-8, he mentioned that they (Dhaka) did not like the picture that the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka used on its Facebook with the national flag of Bangladesh linked with the flag of Pakistan.

“We have told them (Pakistan) that this is not our choice,” Momen said, adding that they conveyed to MoFA that they did not upload that photo with any ill motive.

The Muktijoddha Manch of Bangladesh on Friday launched a protest against the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka for posting the controversial image of the Bangladesh flag on its official Facebook page.
