CU expels 2 over sexual assault of female student

C T Online Desk: Chittagong University (CU) authorities on Saturday expelled two of its students for their involvement in the sexual assault of a female student.

According to CU Assistant Proctor Shahidul Islam, the decision was made during a meeting of the university’s Board of Health, Residence, and Disciplinary Committee.

He said: “The university expelled them because the perpetrators had committed an unforgivable act.”

“A written application will be submitted to the vice-chancellor of the National University to take action against the remaining two accused, who are students of Hathazari College,” he added.

The official also assured that, if any of the remaining fugitives are university students, they will be expelled as well.

Earlier in the afternoon, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested one more person accused of sexually abusing the CU student.

In this incident, a total of five people have been arrested so far.

RAB claimed that, among six people directly involved in the sexual assault, three are students of CU and the rest are locals.

On July 17, a student and her companion were sexually assaulted in the Botanical Garden area on their way back to the CU’s hall from the campus’s Hotashar intersection area at night.
