Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Banaspati Manufacturers Association informed about reducing the price of edible oil in the country on July 17 due to the drop in the global market. On behalf of the association, the price of bottled soybean oil has been reduced by Tk 14 to Tk 185 per litre. Besides, the price of open oil is fixed at Tk 166 per liter and the price of open palm oil is fixed at Tk 152 per liter. Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Banaspati Manufacturers Association informed about the new price effective from July 21.
According to that, the price of edible oil is supposed to decrease from yesterday. But yesterday, several kitchen markets of the city and After visiting the grocery store, evidence was found that edible oil was being sold at higher prices than before. Bottled soybean oil has been sold at Tk 200-205 per liter in Karnaphuli Complex Bazar, Chowkbazar Raw Bazar, Bahaddarhat Raw Bazar of gate number two of the city. Shopkeepers sold open soybean oil at Tk 195 per liter and open palm oil at Tk 190 per liter.
When asked about the reason for selling edible oil at higher prices, the retailers said that they have oil from the previous shipment. Which were bought at a higher price earlier. The new shipment of oil has not arrived yet. That is why they are still selling oil at the same price.
