C T Online Desk: This time in Chittagong, the target of collecting sacrificial animal skins was not met. Though the target of collecting 4 lakh raw hides has been set in Chittagong this year, less sacrifices have been made than the target in the metropolis, said the leaders of the Raw Leather Stockists Association. From the day of the sacrifice till the night of July 12, the stock keepers of Chittagong have collected 3.5 lakh animal skins. Of this, 1.5 lakh skins have been collected in the city and 2 lakh in the upazila.
The skins collected from 41 wards of Chittagong metropolis have been salted by small traders in different yards of Atura depot area and 15 upazilas on their own initiative.
Leaders of the Chittagong Raw Leather Stock keepers’ Association said that 50,000 less annimals were slaughtered in the city than the target this time. The warehouse keepers are planning to send the skins directly from the warehouse to the Dhaka tannery. Meanwhile, the stock keepers were happy with the price of the leather collection, but the sacrificers did not get the desired price and hence donated the free leather to the local orphanages and madrasas.
