C T Online Desk: Under the skillful leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, development in all sectors has touched the entire country improving the livelihoods and living standard of common people.
“In continuation of this, development activities are continuing in every union of Pirganj upazila without any stop for a moment even during the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at a function today as the chief guest.
She distributed bicycles, sewing machines, wheelchairs and spray machines among the beneficiaries of Choitrokol and Bhendabari unions in the function held at the Madrasa ground of the shrine of poet Kazi Heyat Mamud in Choitrokol union of Pirganj upazila in the district.
Presided over by Pirganj Upazila Awami League Acting President Professor Nurul Amin Raja, its General Secretary and Pirganj Municipal Mayor Tazimul Islam Shamim moderated the function.
Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan, Superintendent of Police Md Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Roy, Choitrokol union Chairman Sadikul Islam Sadik and Bhendabari union Chairman Atikuzzaman Shah spoke as special guests.
At the beginning of the function, local public representatives, heads of different institutions and enlisted educational institutions under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme greeted the speaker with floral wreaths.
Later, she distributed a total of 22 sewing machines, 20 sprayer machines, 20 wheelchairs and 100 bicycles to the beneficiaries of Choitrokol and Bhendabari unions.
The Speaker said the process is underway to immortalize the memory of all eminent personalities like Kazi Heyat Mamud, the last poet of the middle ages in Bengali literature.
“For this purpose, a plan has been taken to build the Kazi Heyat Mamud Complex,” she said.
She mentioned that with the money allocated from the District Council in favor of the Speaker, a multipurpose training center will be constructed in Bhendabari union and a cooperative society will be formed for mothers and sisters involved in milk and meat production.
“These programmes will be implemented so that working women can enjoy the benefits from their activities sitting at their own upazila,” she said, adding that a master plan to turn Pirganj into a model upazila is under
process.
As an election pledge, she put special importance on the successful implementation of all development activities to alleviate sufferings of the sisters and mothers of Pirganj upazila to ensure their development and empowerment.
Later, the Speaker met people from all walks of life in her chamber at the Upazila Administrative Building in Pirganj municipal town.
Afterwards, she exchanged views with the leaders of Pirganj Upazila Awami League at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium.
Earlier in the morning, the Speaker came to Pirganj by road from Saidpur airport after arriving there by air from Dhaka and left Pirganj for Saidpur by road in the afternoon to fly to Dhaka in the evening today.
Pirganj Upazila Chairman Nur Mohammad Mandal, Upazila Awami League Vice- president Shahidul Islam Pintu, Upazila Vice-chairman Shafiur Rahman Mandal, officials and leaders of Upazila Awami League and its associate bodies were present.
