C T Online Desk: Tens of thousands of Hindu devotees yesterday (JULY 01) celebrated the RathaYatra (chariot festival) in Chattogram city with a mammoth procession carrying the deities of Lord Jagannath. Before bringing out a procession, an inaugural programme was held which was presided over by Mohant of Tulsidham Debdip Mitra Chowdhury.
The chief guest was CMP commissioner saleh Mohammed Tanvir. Honourable guest was Mohant Moharaj Srimat Kalipada Bhattacharya of Pahartali Kaibalyadham and CMCH Dr. Binoy Paul. Later, Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Chittagong Dr. Rajib Ranjan inaugurated the festival. The meeting was chaired by president of the Central Rath Yatra Festival Celebration Committee Ranjan Prasad Dasgupta and general secretary Shyamdash Dhar. Cu Councillor Jaharlal Hazari, Shaibal Das Sumon, Pulak Khastogir and Rumki Sengupta, Anup Biswas, Md. Sahabuddin gave the greeting speech.
At 3:30pm, the procession was brought out with decorated chariots. After parading the important thoroughfares of the city, it ended on the Rother pukur par premises.
