C T Online Desk: Housewife Jhumur Barua was blinking her eyes for a long time. There was also a slight itch in the eyes. This woman in her forties could not go to the city for treatment due to family complications. She received eye care in the village, not in the city. Jhumur, a dependent housewife, now goes to the ‘Community Vision Center’ established at Banshkhali Upazila Health Complex and has her eye treated. The center was inaugurated on June 6 at Banshkhali Upazila Health Complex. Since its inception, more than three hundred eye patients like Jhumur have received treatment at the health complex. The center will be launched in all the upazilas of the country step by step under the management of National Eye Care.
Upazila Health Complex Community Vision Center Project Director Golam Rasul said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced to set up 200 centers for eye treatment in the village hospital. Community Vision Centers have already been set up in 135 upazilas across the country to provide eye care. 75 of these funds will be introduced in a year. This eye treatment center will be introduced in all the upazila health complexes of the country step by step. Among the new ones this month, 20 centers have been set up in Chittagong and 20 in Barisal. The people of the village will enjoy the benefits of this eye treatment service.
