Chaktai-Khatunganj traders suffer from water-logging

C T Online Desk: Traders of Chaktai-Khatunganj, a large wholesale market for consumer goods, are suffering from waterlogging whenever they see clouds in the sky. According to traders, the problem of waterlogging in the Chaktai-Khatunganj market, which has developed along the banks of Chaktai canal, has become more pronounced during the monsoon season. They say that even in the rainy season, the low-lying areas of Chaktai-Khatunganj are being submerged due to the tidal water.

To avoid this problem, Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) started construction of tidal water resistant sluice gate at Karnafuli estuary of Chaktai canal in mid-2016. But that construction work is not finished yet. As a result, traders are also suffering in this monsoon. In the last four  days, due to continuous rain and tidal water, water entered many shops and warehouses in the low lying areas of Chaktai-Khatunganj. Many products of traders are wasted in water.
