C T Online Desk: A four-member committee has been formed at the CCC-CDA coordination meeting to find out the cause of waterlogging in the city.
The committee was formed at a meeting held at the CCC conference room on Wednesday (June 22).
CDA chief engineer Kazi Hasan bin Shams has been made the convener of the committee and CCC engineer Rafiqul Islam has been made the member secretary. Besides, Mubarak Ali, director of CCC Council and director of the project will be also present as a member.
At the end of the meeting, Mayor Rezaul Karim said the high-level committee would inspect the entire area within seven days and find out the problems and recommend action.
He said implementing a project would create various problems. However, we have formed this committee to free the city dwellers from the problem that has been created now.
Asked by reporters about the demand of Rs 100 crore from CDA for project management, CCC Mayor said, “Rs 100 crore is not an issue.” The point here is that human suffering has reached its peak. I am trying not to make people suffer in this rainy season.
The mayor acknowledged waterlogging in the city.
Asked by CDA chairman Zahirul Alam Dobhas about not getting the full amount of the project, he told reporters, “We have not yet been billed for all the work we have done.” We have made proposals for land acquisition. We will do that soon.
Also present on the occasion were CMP Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, Port Chairman Rear Admiral Shahjahan, Director of Waterlogging Relief Project Lt. Colonel Md. Shah Ali, CCC’s chief engineer Rafiqul Islam, CDA’s chief engineer Hasan bin Shams and others.
