C T Online Desk: The overall number of Covid cases is now approaching 544 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 543,682,020 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,339,468 on Saturday morning.
The United States has recorded 87,968,819 cases so far and 1,038,265 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
India continues to witness a sharp rise in the number of new Covid-19 cases per day as more than 12,000 new cases were recorded for the second consecutive day on Friday.
According to official data released by the federal health ministry, as many as 12,847 new Covid-19 cases were registered across the country over the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 43,270,577.
A day ago, 12,213 new cases were registered.
The daily positivity rate is 2.47 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate is 2.41 per cent, revealed the federal health ministry.
Besides, 14 people died due to the pandemic across the country since Thursday morning, taking the total death toll to 524,817.
Amid surging positivity rate Bangladesh recorded 433 new Covid cases in 24 hours till Friday morning taking the country’s total caseload to 1,955,427, the health directorate said.
The country’s total fatalities, however, remained unchanged at 29,131 as no death was reported during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
The daily test positivity rate rose to 6.27 per cent from Thursday’s 5.76 per cent with 6,905 samples tested during the period.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.49 per cent. The recovery rates declined to 97.46 per cent as 93 patients recovered during this period.
