C T Online Desk: In 18 UP elections of 6 upazilas of Cattogram , boat candidates have won in 9 UPs and independent candidates in 9 UPs. Returning officers in charge of their respective union council elections announced the results after counting the votes on Wednesday (June 15) evening. The election results show that in 13 unions of Banshkhali upazila, the candidate of boat symbol has won in 7 of them and the independent candidate has won in 6 of them. The winners of the boat symbol of this upazila are- Jasim Uddin Haider in Khankhanabad Union, ANM Shahadat Alam in Kalipur Union, Tajul Islam in Baharchhara Union, Md. In Bailchhari Union. Kapil Uddin, Ibn Amin in Kathria Union, Rashid Ahmad Chowdhury in Saral Union and Kayesh Sarwar Sumon in Shilkup Union.
The winning candidates are: Ashab Uddin with Pineapple Symbol in Pukuria Union, Salah Uddin Kamal with Autorix Symbol in Sadhanpur Union, Liaquat Ali with Pineapple Symbol in Gandamara Union, Harun Aur Rashid with Pineapple Symbol in Chanuya Union, Sheikh Terek in Punichhari Union and Sheikh Maulana Morshed Farooqi with spectacle symbol in the union.
Abdur Rashid Dauldi, a motorcycle candidate from Patia Upazila, Haji Chaber Ahmed, a candidate from Charpatharghata Union, Azizul Haque Chowdhury Babul, a candidate from Fatikchhari Upazila. Boat symbol candidate Shawkat Alam Shawkat has won privately.
Earlier, voting started at 8 am on Wednesday and ended at 4 pm. Elections were held on ballot papers in Chaniahra and Anwar Paraikora Unions of Patiya, but Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) voting was held in the remaining 17 UPs.
Regarding the election, Chittagong Senior District Election Officer Mohammad Jahangir Hossain told media that no untoward incident was reported during the election. The election was held smoothly. Voter turnout was also quite noticeable. With the cooperation of all, it has been possible to give the gift of a fair election.
