C T Online Desk: At least 10 people have died in a deadly outbreak of diarrhoea in remote villages of Bandarban.
Of them, nine deaths were reported in Thanchi and one in Alikadam, Bandarban Civil Surgeon Niharanjan Nandi said on Thursday, reports Bangla Tribune.
The civil surgeon said: “Every year, we see an outbreak of diarrhoea at the beginning of the monsoon in Bandarban. This is caused by the contaminated water in the hot springs.”
He said the medical team was working to control the situation in the affected area. Adequate quantities of medicines have been sent to Thanchi and Alikadam upazila.
Meanwhile, Thanchi Upazila Health and Family Welfare Officer. Wahiduzzaman Murad said the locals were drinking polluted water due to acute shortage of potable water in Remakri area.
A medical team of 10 people is working on their treatment, he added.
He said the authorities also decided to set up a field hospital in the area in a day or two.
