C T Online Desk: Voting will be held in 13 unions of Banshkhali upazila, one each in Fatikchhari, Hathazari, Karnafuli, Patiya and Anwara upazilas. By-elections will be held in Patiya and Anwara. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used in all unions except by-elections.
District Senior Election Officer Mohammad Jahangir Hossain told the media, “All preparations for the election are over. Law and order forces are ready for peaceful elections. Voting will be held under tight security. Tomorrow is the first election under the current Election Commission. The next twelfth parliamentary elections will be held under this commission.
Therefore, the election of Union Parishad and Comilla City Corporation is a challenging election for the commission. Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Ahsan Habib Khan has instructed to make the upcoming Union Parishad (UP) elections 100% fair and peaceful. He gave this instruction at a meeting on law and order held at Chittagong Circuit House.
According to the election office, polling will be held in 13 unions in Banshkhali, Bhujpur in Fatikchhari, Farhadabad in Hathazari and Charpatharghata in Karnafuli. Besides, by-elections will be held in Chhanhara and Anwara Parikora Unions of Patiya.
Voting will be held in 175 polling stations in 18 unions and in 1136 polling booths. Three lakh 79 thousand 321 citizens will exercise their voting right. In these unions, 94 candidates are contesting for the post of chairman, 190 in reserved ward and 663 in general ward. However, after the announcement of the schedule, the elections in Durgapur, Chambal of Banshkhali and Aochia Union of Satkania have been postponed.
