C T Online Desk: The prices of eggs, flour and rice have risen again this week in the upward market. Besides, prices of fish, chicken and vegetables are also high. Buyers are getting more and more confident with such high prices.
A visit to various markets in the city yesterday showed that the price of a 50 kg bag of rice has gone up from around Tk 200 to Tk 300 in the retail market. The price of a dozen eggs has increased by another 10 taka. A dozen eggs are being sold in the market for 130 taka. Flour has increased by Tk 2 per kg depending on the company. Traders say wheat prices are higher now. Wheat is used to make chicken feed. Wheat prices were higher even in the busy season this year. That is why the price of chicken food is higher and therefore the price of egg is higher. For the same reason, the price of flour is higher.
Meanwhile, it has been found that the price of coarse variety of gold rice in the wholesale market has increased from Tk 100 to Tk 150 per 50 kg. Two days ago, the price of coarse rice was 2000 to 2100 taka. But yesterday it was being sold at 2200 to 2250 taka.
In the retail market, the price of coarse rice has gone up by Tk 4 to 5 per kg. Two days ago, a 50 kg sack of Chikon Jirashail rice was sold at Tk 2,800-2,650. Yesterday that rice is being sold at 2600-2850 taka. The retail price of these thin varieties of rice has increased by about 5 to 6 taka per kg.
