C T Online Desk: Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of chandanaish upazila Ghalib Chowdhury seized 11 CNG autorickshaws on the busiest Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway passing through Chandnaish upazila.
On Monday, the upazila administration launched an operation to arrest the banned three-wheeler on the highway. The drive was carried out at important points of the highway in Chandnaish Municipality and Hashimpur Union till 6 pm. Later, according to the Road Transport Act 2017, each CNG autorickshaw seized was fined Tk 22,000 and a total of Tk 22,000.
Executive Magistrate Ghalib Chowdhury said the rapid and slow movement of vehicles on the highway together has become one of the causes of road accidents. The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has banned CNG-powered autorickshaws from plying on the highways.
However, ignoring the government ban, such vehicles are moving on the highway in a risky manner. Therefore, the Chandnaish Upazila administration will conduct regular mobile court raids to stop the movement of three-wheeler CNG autorickshaws on the highway.
