C T Online Desk: Eid al-Adha is one month away. The market for spices usually grows exponentially as the time of sacrifice approaches. Consumers complain that demand for chillies, turmeric, coriander, cinnamon and cardamom naturally increases at the time of sacrifice. By capitalizing on that demand, a class of traders increases prices.
However, several traders in Khatunganj claim that the price of spices will not increase in the upcoming sacrifice. Although the prices of all kinds of spices including cardamom and cinnamon have recently gone up due to the rise in the dollar, it has started declining over the last few days. There are stocks of spices.
There is no fear of price increase on Eid-ul-Adha. A search of the wholesale market in Chaktai-Khatunganj yesterday revealed that cardamom is currently being sold at Tk 1,350 to TK 1,500 per kg. Pepper is being sold at TK.500 to TK.550. Cinnamon is being sold at 350-375 taka. Besides, cloves are being sold at Tk 1,025 per kg. The price of these spices has recently increased from TK 50 to TK 150 per kg. Now it starts to decrease again.
