C T Online Desk: Commissioner of Chattogram Custom House Fakhrul Alam said the final auction of 108 vehicles of BMW, Mercedes Benz, Land Cruiser, Land Rover, Jaguar, Lexus and Mitsubishi brands will be held next month at the port at various times with the facility of Carnet D Passage.
He made the remarks at a press conference at the Chittagong Custom House yesterday .
The customs commissioner said the expatriate Bangladeshi tourists brought cars with special facilities. These vehicles were neither unloaded nor returned from the port. So the auction was initiated according to the rules and regulations. According to the import policy, import of these vehicles is prohibited due to their advanced age. We reported the matter to the NBR. The matter was settled expeditiously on the personal initiative of the NBR chairman.
The Ministry of Commerce has given clearance for auction of the vehicles. A representative from the Ministry of Commerce assisted in compiling the vehicle catalog. We are grateful to the NBR Chairman and the Ministry of Commerce, customs house added.
