Speakers at Naval Safety Week : ‘Waterways one of driving forces of economy’

C T Online Desk: Naval Safety Week has started at Chittagong Port under the theme ‘Trained Manpower and Safe Vessels, Contribute to Naval Security’.

The main goal of this week’s celebration is to create awareness among all to build a safe and accident-free shipping system.

Commodore Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, Member (Harbor and Marine) of the Port, inaugurated the Naval Safety Week in front of Bandar Bhaban on Sunday (May 22) morning.

Assistant Harbor Master Captain   Capt. Faridul Alam spoke as the special guest in the occasion. Speakers said the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken groundbreaking steps in the development and growth of the maritime industry in the country. Confidence in waterway safety has returned with the construction of safe vessels and the addition of modern equipment to vessels. The importance of shipping in the enviable development of the country’s economy is immense.

Waterways are economical and environmentally friendly. Waterways are one of the driving forces of the country’s economy. Adequate life jackets on ships, adequate buoy lights on waterways and continuity of crew training must be maintained. They said the strong navy of Chittagong port is playing a role in efficient shipping services, piloting, hydrographic surveys, rescue operations at sea and prevention of environmental pollution.
