C T Online Desk: Chittagong Journalists Union-CUJ has held a mourning rally on the death of late journalists Mostafa Kamal Pasha and Abdur Rauf Patwari.
The rally was held at noon on Wednesday (May 18) at S Rahman Hall of Chittagong Press Club.
Chittagong Press Club President Ali Abbas, BFUJ Vice President Shahid Ul Alam, CUJ General Secretary Md. Shamsul Islam, Chittagong Press Club General Secretary Chowdhury Farid, CUJ Senior Vice President Ratan Kanti Debashish, former Senior Co-President Mainuddin Dulal, Vice-President Anindya Tito, Press Club Co-President S. M. Ibrahim, Saikat Kamal Upal, son of BFUJ Joint Secretary General Mohsin Kazi, former BFUJ Joint Secretary General Tapan Chakraborty and late journalist Mostafa Kamal Pasha.
Sabur Shuvo, joint secretary of CUJ, Swarup Bhattacharya, former joint secretary, Kashem Shah, finance secretary, Iftekhar Faisal, publicity and publication secretary, Mahram Hossain, executive member, Mujahidul Islam, head of Kanfuli unit, Mintu Chowdhury, library secretary of press club, Ayub Ali, social service and entertainment secretary. Acting members Devdulal Bhowmik, Manzur Quader Manjus and members of CUJ and Chittagong Press Club were present.
Recalling the two journalists at the rally, Chittagong Press Club President Ali Abbas said Mostafa Kamal Pasha was active in pro-liberation politics as well as journalism. He never compromised with his ideals. Journalist Abdur Rauf is also an enemy. During his tenure as CEO, he won the hearts of the media.
CUJ President Mohammad Ali said that Mostafa Kamal Pasha has played a role in the struggle of various progressive movements in the country through his journalism, creative writing and activities throughout his life. Although he was disliked by many because of his outspoken character, he never hesitated to reveal the truth. On the other hand, the moderate Abdur Rauf, despite his many personal limitations, was always active in asserting the rights of journalists.
BFUJ vice-president Shahid Ul Alam broke down in tears while reminiscing about the two journalists. During this time, he shared various personal memories and expressed regret that he did not meet the two journalists at the time of his death.
CUJ general secretary Shamsul Islam said that Mostafa Kamal Pasha has always been by his side with positive advice and constructive criticism in the activities of CUJ. On the other hand, Abdur Rauf was vocal in asserting the rights of journalists by participating in the movement on the ground in all the programs of CUJ. The death of two journalists is an irreparable loss for journalists.At the end of the mourning, special prayers were offered for the peace of the souls of the two deceased members.
