C T Online Desk: The water of Kaptai lake has decreased due to the heat of summer sun. Most of the lake has dried up. Due to lack of rainfall and release of water for cultivation in the floodplain lands, the water level in the lake has come down to the lowest level. That is why power generation has decreased. As a result, the level of load shedding has increased in the entire district due to insufficient power generation.
The country’s only hydropower plant is currently generating 35 MW of electricity with one of the five machines. Of these, three of the remaining four machines are running but no power is being generated. Another machine is undergoing annual renovation work. But if the lake is full of water, it is possible to generate 242 MW of electricity from five units. Due to the drying up of the lake water, the production of 206 MW of electricity is decreasing at present.
