C T Online Desk: In the heat of the oil market, onions are on the rise. In Chaktai Khatunganj, the largest wholesale market in the city, the price of onion has gone up from Tk 8 to Tk 10 in a single day. Onion market started at Tk 30 in Chaktai Khatunganj wholesale market on Wednesday morning. In the afternoon the price goes up to 40 taka.
Traders say there is a crisis in onion supply at present. Onion import through the country’s land ports has come to a standstill mainly due to expiration of Indian Onion Import Permit (IP). As a result, prices are rising. A search of the city’s Chaktai-Khatunganj wholesale market revealed that Indian onions were sold at Tk 40 yesterday. Before Eid, the onion was sold for 25 taka.
