No  ships waiting in Ctg Port’s  outer  berth : Foreign owners to be encouraged to send  more  ships, hoped  officials

C T Online Desk: Again, there is no container ship waiting in the outer berth  of Chittagong port. Five container ships arrived at the outer anchorage most recently. These can be berthed  as soon as the port’s inner  jetty is empty. The ships do not have to be lazy one day. As a result, the waiting container outside the port of Chittagong became shipless. According to the port’s Marine Division, the five container ships that arrived in outer  yesterday were  Nesna,  Bintulu,  Quangyang, Kota Riha and HR Reha.

These ships will get berthing anytime  when the port jetty is empty. This will reduce the extra  10-15,000 dollars per day that shipping agents or importers have to pay for waiting ships. At the same time, it will have a positive impact on the implementation of the government’s cost of doing business policy.

Port officials and users feel that this has been made possible by the installation of new key gantry cranes at Chittagong Port, procurement of new container handling equipment, improved management, automation and increased load-unloading from container vessels. Earlier, from September to November, there were several unlisted lists of container ships and even the jetty was empty. With such a positive change, the reputation of Chittagong port is increasing in foreign ports and foreigners will be more encouraged to send ships to Chittagong port in coming days, port sources said.
