C T Online Desk: Chittagong City Corporation has set up a control room at the Dampara office for fear of loss of life and property due to cyclone Ashani.
The control room phone numbers are 031-630739 and 031-633649. According to the Meteorological Department, Hurricane Ashani was 1,160 km south of Chittagong port and 1,040 km southwest of Mongla seaport at 8 am on Tuesday (May 10). Seaports in Bangladesh have been asked to display remote warning signal number 2.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been asked to move cautiously along the coast. They have been told not to wander in the deep sea.
The control room is staffed by Red Crescent, volunteers, CCC’s Urban Volunteers team and staff. In addition, dry food, medicine and pure water have been stored. CCC urged the people to contact the control room in case of any humanitarian catastrophe due to the cyclone.
