PM Sheikh Hasina holds in her heart for Sri Lanka, says envoy

C T Online Desk: High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Bangladesh Prof Sudharshan Seneviratne has highly appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the medical emergency supplies for the nation as a whole and children in Sri Lanka at this critical hour of need.

“We are aware of the special affection Excellency Sheikh Hasina holds in her heart for Sri Lanka. It is that affection that resulted in this prompt gift of wellness to Sri Lanka,” he said while making his remarks during the handing over ceremony of medical supplies at State Guesthouse Padma on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Sri Lankan envoy said all counties do undergo cyclic conditions of good fortune and adversity. Sri Lanka underwent a 30-year destructive civil war, a devastating tsunami, Easter Sunday Carnage and a two-year pandemic.

He said: “As a small nation, our staying power has been tested over several decades. My nation has the resilience, as did Bangladesh, to rise again and again from adversity. But we need trusted friends at this particular hour.”

“As much as Sri Lanka stood by Bangladesh at its times of adversity, similarly at our moments of adversity, be it at international fora, our financial needs and now the need for medicine, Bangladesh has stood by Sri Lanka as a Friend in Need and Friend in Deed,” said High Commissioner Prof Sudharshan Seneviratne.

He said at this moment of adversity and need, Bangladesh has stepped in with a magnanimous gesture of a valued gift of medical supplies. “We are aware of the special affection Excellency Sheik Hasina holds in her heart for Sri Lanka. It is that affection that resulted in this prompt gift of wellness to Sri Lanka following my request through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

On behalf of the government and people of Sri Lanka, the High Commissioner conveyed grateful appreciation to the Prime Minster, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health and the community of pharmaceutical producers and the people of Bangladesh for this life-giving gesture to its brothers and sister of Sri Lanka across the Bay of Bengal.

“This indeed is a very emotional moment for all of us. More than the monetary value of medicines, one cannot place a premium on such a magnanimous and warm humane gesture extended by Bangladesh to its fraternal kinsmen in Sri Lanka,” said Prof Sudharshan Seneviratne.

“Your brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka reach out to you at this critical hour of need for emergency medical supplies for the nation as a whole and children in particular.”

The Sri Lankan envoy signed off with the salutation….Amar Shonar Bangla (my golden Bangla) and Mage Suwarnabhumi Sri Lanka (my golden Sri Lanka).
