Rly to sign accord with BUET to repair Kalurghat bridge soon

C T Online Desk: The railway authorities are going to appoint BUET as a consulting firm to make the existing Kalurghat bridge suitable for running trains on the Cox’s Bazar route. The railway authorities have already agreed to BUET’s proposal, said a railway engineer. It is learned that the amount of fee demanded by BUET for repairing the bridge will be finalized in the next meeting after the discussion of Railways with BUET. In this regard, Abu Jafar Mia, Chief Engineer, Eastern Railway, said that a railway agreement will be signed with BUET soon to repair the Kalurghat bridge.

As a consultant, BUET offered them a proposal. This issue has been discussed with BUET. Their proposal will be finalized after discussion at the next meeting. With the progress of Cox’s Bazar railway construction work, we are also taking the issue of repair of Kalurghat bridge seriously. Some locomotive masters of the eastern part of the railway said that unless the old Kalurghat bridge is repaired, the new meter gauge locomotives imported for the eastern part will not run through the Kalurghat bridge. Trains on the Cox’s Bazar route cannot be run with old small meter gauge engines. So there is no alternative to repairing the bridge.
