Eid shopping gaining momentum in Port city

C T Online Desk: After cutting the sword of Corona, the country will participate in the Eid festival in a well-organized event two years later. People of different ages have flocked to the market centered around this big festival. From morning till late night everyone is spending their time busy in bikinis of various products. Due to this, Eid market has become strong. According to traders, this time around Eid alone, there could be more than 90,000 crore transactions around Eid.

Concerned people say that there is a rush to buy new clothes, shoes and cosmetics on Eid. During Sahri-Iftar and Eid celebrations, the demand for consumer goods including gram, semai and sugar increases. During the Eid journey, extra money is transacted in the transport sector. Many people go to the entertainment center during the Eid holidays. Hotels and motels are also overflowing with tourists. Many people buy new mobiles for themselves besides TV, fridge, crockery products to decorate the house. Business organizations do not have any specific information about how much money is transacted in any of these sectors around Eid in Chittagong. However, traders said that Khatunganj, the largest consumer goods market, could have a turnover of Tk 50,000 crore this Eid. Besides, there could be a turnover of Tk 36,000 crore in clothing, cosmetics, footwear and electronics and Rs 3,000 crore in the transport and tourism sectors.

Syed Sagir  Ahmed, general secretary of Khatunganj Trade and Industries Association, said that due to increase in prices of some products including oil, buying and selling of consumer goods in Eid Bazaar is a little less than last Eid. Khatunganj has a daily turnover of Tk 1,500 to 1,800 crore during Ramadan. As such, the amount of transactions in four thousand shops of Khatunganj in Eid Bazaar will exceed 50-55 thousand crore taka.
