C T Online Desk: In the ICU department of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital, 13 breathing ventilators have been newly added. As a result, the respiratory services of dying patients went one step further. As a result, from now on, dying patients will get service in 20-bed ICU. The installation of these devices was completed on Monday.
However, after the start of the trial for 24 hours on Tuesday, if all goes well, the service will be provided to the patients from the next day, the concerned authorities said. It is learned that in November 2020, the ICU of the hospital was upgraded to 20 beds, but at the end of last year, several ventilator functional defects were found in the artificial respiration machine. Due to which the doctors were providing services to the patients with alternative ventilators. But as this number continues to grow, we have to struggle for service. In the meantime, doctors have been forced to provide services in addition to ventilators.
According to the news, the current director of CMC Hospital this year sent a letter to the line director of the hospital services management department of the health department asking for a new ventilator. Of these, 15 new ventilators were allocated and delivered to the hospital on April 8. Of these, 13 ventilators were allocated by the authorities for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) department. The other two ventilators are allocated for the hospital’s cardiology department and emergency department. The engineers of the contractor company started the work of adding the new ventilators from last Sunday.
