Eight voluntary and sports organisations were formally recognised in Fatikchhari on Sunday for their contributions to social service, education, sport and self-employment, as the upazila marked National Youth Day.

Two successful self-employed individuals and three young entrepreneurs were also presented with commemorative crests. Cheques for youth loans and grants from the Youth Welfare Fund were distributed at the same event to promote self-reliance among young people.

The ceremony was held at the Bir Muktijoddha Shafiqun Noor Maola Auditorium of the Upazila Parishad under the theme “A skilled youth shapes the nation, Bangladesh for all”. It was organised jointly by the upazila administration and the Department of Youth Development, and presided over by Upazila Executive Officer Saied Mohammad Ibrahim.

Youth Development Officer Abdul Momen Chowdhury and representatives of youth and voluntary organisations attended. Speakers urged young people to build skills through training and to create their own livelihoods rather than rely solely on employment.

A mosquito-control drive to curb dengue was also conducted as part of the day’s programme.
