Three metro rail stations in Dhaka remained closed for several hours on Sunday following protests by garment workers demanding unpaid wages and benefits, which led to clashes with police. During the unrest, protesters set fire to a police vehicle beneath Mirpur-11 Metro Station.

Train stops and passenger access were temporarily suspended at Pallabi, Mirpur-10 and Mirpur-11 stations to ensure public safety and protect government property.

Mohammad Mohsin, Inspector (Operations) of MRT Police, said the three stations were gradually closed around midday as the situation deteriorated. Services at the stations resumed between 1:21pm and 1:58pm after the situation came under control.

However, metro rail services remained operational on the main line from Uttara to Motijheel throughout the incident.

Train operations across the entire route are now normal, he added.
