Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has announced that students who failed the 2026 HSC and equivalent examinations will get an opportunity to retake their exams within one month.

He made the announcement at a press conference at the Secretariat following the publication of the results on Saturday.

The minister said the initiative aims to prevent students from losing an entire academic year. Those who fail again or do not participate in the supplementary examinations will be offered opportunities to pursue technical and vocational education.

Milon said the government was reviewing weaknesses in the education system, including examination evaluation, textbooks and teaching methods. Special programmes have also been introduced to improve students’ performance in English and ICT.

He added that colleges with low enrolment or zero pass rates could be merged with better-performing institutions, while ensuring that no teachers lose their jobs.

The government is also planning to introduce CCTV monitoring in classrooms to ensure regular attendance and accountability among teachers.

Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Mahdi Amin, Special Assistant Gias Uddin Rimon, education board chairmen and senior ministry officials were present at the press conference.
