Dr Shahadat Hossain has been appointed full-time administrator of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) under Section 4 of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Act, 2026.
The Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives issued a notification to this effect on Sunday (October 25) through its City Corporation-1 section.
The notification, issued by order of the President, was signed by Deputy Secretary Jewel Rana.
According to the notification, Dr Shahadat Hossain will continue to serve as administrator until the city corporation is formally constituted or until further orders are issued.
Under Sub-section 3 of Section 4 of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Act, 2026, he will exercise the powers and discharge the responsibilities of the mayor of the city corporation. He will also be entitled to a monthly honorarium and other allowances in accordance with the applicable rules.
It may be noted that Dr Shahadat Hossain had filed a case challenging the results of the Chattogram City Corporation election held on January 27, 2021. Following the July mass uprising in 2024, a court ruled on October 1, 2024, declaring him the winner of the mayoral election.
