C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh: While patients at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital are suffering for a few syringes and cannulas, bags of unused new medical supplies are being found at the city’s Shambhuganj waste storage facility, which has a shelf life of 2028 to 2031.
This major hospital in Greater Mymensingh removes 35-40 vans of waste every day. From that waste, 3-4 bags of new syringes, cannulas, and saline are being obtained every week.
Waste sorting worker Zubeda Khatun said, “We work with 11 people. We bring waste from Momek and sort it. New syringes and saline arrive every day. After 10-12 days, when we have 3-4 bags, we return them to the hospital, and we sell the rest wholesale.”
Expressing anger over the incident, Mymensingh Mancha Chief Coordinator Imtiaz Ahmed said that an immediate investigation should be conducted and action should be taken against those involved.
However, Jhantu Sarkar, the hospital’s senior store officer, said, “There is no opportunity to go outside. The matter will be investigated.”
